Vietnam Visa Exemption Extended to 12 More Countries, Offering a Significant Boost to Tourism

Vietnam Visa Exemption Extended to 12 More Countries

Vietnam has significantly expanded its visa exemption program, now encompassing citizens from 12 additional countries, a move poised to greatly facilitate and encourage tourism to this captivating Southeast Asian nation. The Government’s official decree, Resolution No. 229/NQ-CP, formally dated August 11, 2025, introduces a generous visa-free entry allowance of up to 45 days for citizens hailing from the Kingdom of Belgium, the Republic of Bulgaria, the Republic of Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Republic of Poland, Romania, the Republic of Slovakia, the Republic of Slovenia, and the Swiss Confederation.

This new, advantageous policy officially came into effect on August 15, 2025, and remains valid until August 14, 2028, providing ample opportunity for travelers to take advantage of the simplified entry process. The visa exemption specifically caters to tourism purposes, ensuring that visitors can readily explore Vietnam’s rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and vibrant cities. The exemption applies regardless of passport type, offering universal accessibility to citizens of the designated countries, provided that all standard entry conditions as stipulated under Vietnamese law are fully met.

Significant boost to Vietnam tourism: Visa exemption policy for citizens of several key European and Asian nations

This progressive initiative builds upon the solid foundation of the existing visa exemption program, initially established by Resolution No. 44/NQ-CP on March 7, 2025. This pre-existing program already granted visa-free travel privileges to citizens of several key European and Asian nations, including Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland.

Consequently, as of August 15, 2025, Vietnam proudly extends visa exemptions to citizens of a total of 24 countries, representing a substantial simplification of travel logistics for a significant segment of the international tourism market. This streamlined process is anticipated to attract a greater influx of visitors, further contributing to the growth and prosperity of Vietnam’s tourism sector.

To boost socio-economic development, the Vietnamese government has waived visa requirements for several groups: guests of high-ranking officials; scholars, experts, and high-quality digital technology professionals; investors and leaders of top 100 global corporations; influential figures in culture, arts, sports, and tourism (including top 100 globally ranked football players invited by Vietnamese clubs); honorary consuls of Vietnam abroad; and guests of research institutes, universities, and large enterprises. According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, international arrivals in Vietnam reached 12.2 million in the first seven months of 2025, a 22% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
